What Amazon recovered and what it committed to
The $600 million is money already back in Amazon's hands, not a forecast of future recovery. It came from the federal government as a direct result of the Supreme Court's ruling against the tariffs. That is the hard number in this story.
What remains soft is the commitment to pass it on. Amazon said it will return a portion to some customers. The company has not specified which customers qualify, what share of the $600 million will go back to buyers, or how and when any payments would be made. The announcement describes an intent without a formula.
The gap between recovery and return
Customers who paid higher prices because tariff costs were built into retail pricing have a reasonable interest in knowing whether they fall inside "some." Amazon has not answered that yet.
