A 27-inch gaming monitor with a premium display type is on sale for the first time. QD-OLED, which stands for quantum dot organic light-emitting diode, layers color-filtering quantum dots over a self-lit OLED panel to produce deeper blacks and more saturated colors than a standard LCD. Alienware's AW2726DM uses that panel type and is now $319.99 at Dell, down $30 from its standard $349.99 price.
The cut is modest. What makes it notable is that the AW2726DM has not moved below its list price until now. The monitor targets PC gamers who want strong contrast and fast response times without a premium price tag. The QD-OLED panel handles both display goals: the OLED side produces deeper blacks, and the quantum dots extend color range toward fuller saturation.
What the refresh rate and sync feature actually do
The screen runs at 240Hz. In plain terms, the image updates 240 times per second, keeping motion blur low during fast-paced games. Alienware also includes AMD FreeSync Premium Plus. Here is what that means: the monitor's refresh rate adjusts in real time to match the output of the connected graphics card, preventing screen tearing. Screen tearing happens when the top and bottom halves of the display draw two different frames at the same moment.
The resolution is 2560 x 1440. A DisplayPort 1.4 connection supports the full 240Hz at that resolution. Two HDMI ports are included but top out at 120Hz. There is no USB hub on the panel and no audio output. Both features appear on some competing monitors, but neither is required for PC gaming and each can push the price higher.
Stand and warranty
The stand allows height, tilt, swivel, and pivot adjustments. A 100x100 VESA pattern on the back means the monitor fits standard third-party arms and wall mounts.
The warranty covers three years and explicitly includes burn-in. Burn-in on an OLED display occurs when a static image sits on screen long enough to leave a faint, permanent impression. On a gaming monitor where fixed interface elements can stay on screen for hours at a stretch, that explicit coverage matters.
