Vinod Khosla buys the Seattle Seahawks for a record $9.6 billion

A record sale price just changed hands in the NFL.

Franchise value, the price paid for the right to field a team in a league with no open entry, hit $9.6 billion Wednesday when the other 31 owners unanimously approved the Khosla family's bid to buy the Seattle Seahawks.

The purchase hands a tech billionaire the defending Super Bowl champions.

Vinod Khosla is best known outside football circles for co-founding Sun Microsystems, serving as a partner at Kleiner Perkins, and founding Khosla Ventures, one of the world's leading venture capital firms.
