UEFA, the 55-member body that governs the game across Europe, is planning a boycott of the World Cup and all other FIFA-organized competitions.
A boycott, in plain terms, is a formal refusal to participate as protest, and sources familiar with the matter say the cause is a $20 billion Wall Street-style bid to seize control of how global soccer earns and spends money.
The boycott blueprint is expected to be formally approved Thursday, during emergency talks hosted in Switzerland, sources said.
