Oil has continued to move through the Strait of Hormuz since May, and the U.S. military says it helped make that happen.
The strait is a narrow channel of water connecting the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea, the passage through which virtually all crude leaving the Gulf must travel.
The military put a number on its role: 660 million barrels aided through the corridor since May. The security situation in the strait remains contested, the military said.
Contested means neither freely open nor fully shut. forces have been operating in the area, and Washington's position is that their presence kept the oil moving despite that ongoing tension.
