Trump tells Iran "not to get cute" over Pickaxe Mountain as U.S. and Tehran trade ship attacks near Hormuz

A standoff between the United States and Iran intensified after President Donald Trump warned Tehran to stop activity at Pickaxe Mountain, a location U.S. officials suspect is connected to nuclear development.

As that warning arrived, American and Iranian forces also exchanged attacks on ships near the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow sea passage at the entrance to the Persian Gulf. Trump's instruction to Iran was terse.

He told Tehran "not to get cute" over the Pickaxe Mountain activity. That phrasing, in plain terms, falls short of a formal ultimatum but sits well above a routine diplomatic signal.

Washington is telling Tehran it has noticed what is happening at the site and expects it to stop. Pickaxe Mountain carries the U.S. designation of a suspected nuclear site.
