President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on September 4 to reduce regulatory hurdles in the American beef industry.
The directives instruct federal agencies to facilitate the cross-border movement of state-inspected meat and assist smaller regional processors.
These actions follow a temporary order that took effect on September 1, permitting 300,000 metric tons of imported lean beef trimmings to enter the U.S.
The administration points to record-high beef prices and a shrinking domestic herd as drivers for these measures. Ground beef reached a record $6.92 per pound, a level nearly 60% higher than prices from five years ago.
