President Donald Trump has authorized the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army soldier convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood massacre, according to Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell.
The announcement marks a decisive step toward carrying out a death sentence nearly 17 years after the attack that killed 13 people and wounded 32 others.
Hasan, who shouted "Allahu Akbar" while opening fire at Fort Hood, will face an Army firing squad. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth recommended the method of execution.
Parnell stated that the Army secretary will determine the specific time and place for the event. "Judgment day for Hasan has finally come," Parnell wrote in a statement.
