Russia builds out its shadow LNG fleet before EU sanctions tighten

Russia is adding ships to what traders call a shadow fleet, a collection of tankers that operate outside Western insurance networks and ownership registries, to keep liquefied natural gas moving after the European Union tightens sanctions.

The EU ban is set to take effect next year, and Moscow is building the capacity to route around it before that date arrives.

For buyers still tracking Russian supply, the size of that shadow network will determine how much volume actually keeps moving.
