Rays capitalize on Yankees errors to take 2-0 ALDS lead

10/6/2026

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees 5-2 on Monday night, seizing a commanding 2-0 lead in the American League Division Series.

The decisive factor in the loss was a defensive collapse, as the Yankees committed four errors that allowed Tampa Bay to build an insurmountable advantage at Tropicana Field.

The result leaves New York facing elimination as the series shifts to the Bronx. The game began poorly for the Yankees, who needed to bounce back after Drew Rasmussen pitched eight no-hit innings in Game 1.

Instead, three first-inning defensive errors handed the Rays an early 1-0 lead.
