Nvidia and Meta chiefs reject push to slow AI development

Calls to coordinate a slowdown in artificial intelligence development, meaning a joint effort by companies to deliberately pace themselves in building new AI systems, have been rejected by the bosses of Nvidia and Meta.

Jensen Huang of Nvidia and Mark Zuckerberg of Meta publicly distanced themselves from safety proposals that originated with the leaders of OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX.

The proposals from OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX called for some form of organized restraint on AI development. Huang and Zuckerberg rejected that position.

The disagreement places three organizations that have pushed for careful AI development on one side and two that have chosen to keep building at pace on the other.
