Humana swaps private equity sponsor for BlackRock in $2.8 billion clinic deal

Humana is replacing private equity sponsor Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe with BlackRock in its CenterWell Senior Primary Care clinics.

The health insurer announced on Tuesday that BlackRock will buy the majority stake in the network of 150 Medicare Advantage-focused clinics for $2.8 billion.

Humana stated that the transaction will help fund existing clinic operations, support the addition of new locations, and facilitate other strategic acquisitions over the next two years.

This marks the end of a partnership that began more than six years ago when Welsh Carson initially invested in the CenterWell venture in 2020.
