Google commits $15.1 billion to AI infrastructure in Finland, its largest European investment

AI infrastructure, the physical layer of data centers, servers, and power systems that run artificial intelligence at scale, is set for a record expansion in northern Europe.

Google said Wednesday it would invest $15.1 billion in that build-out in Finland, calling it the single largest investment the company has made in any European country.

The $15.1 billion figure sets a new high for Google's spending on the continent. Finland carries the informal label "Texas of Europe," a phrase Google used in announcing the deal.

The comparison points to industrial scale and the capacity to support large computing operations. Building AI infrastructure at this level is a substantial undertaking.
