A gas retailer that President Donald Trump publicly praised for its low prices is expanding to Detroit, even as a legal dispute with a fuel supplier claiming it was never paid heats up in court.
Unpaid fuel, in plain terms, is a vendor's claim that it delivered gasoline and received nothing in return.
Freedom Fuel entered the national conversation in July, when Trump called on other gas station operators to match the chain's prices. The presidential endorsement came without a price tag.
Trump's remarks were unsolicited, which gives them a different weight than advertising. A public call from the White House urging competitors to imitate your pricing is not something a marketing department manufactures.
