Florida Pizza Hut's 1980s revival has doubled dine-in sales and drawn customers from three hours away

A single Pizza Hut in Homosassa Springs, Florida has more than doubled its dine-in sales since the operator converted it back to the chain's original 1980s look: vinyl booths, checkerboard tablecloths, Tiffany-style lamps, and red plastic cups.

The operator is a franchisee, meaning an independent company that pays to run restaurants under a larger chain's brand and standards rather than owning the brand itself.

Daland Corp., based in Wichita, Kansas, operates 82 dine-in Pizza Huts that way and has brought the same retro format to 39 of them.

What the sales numbers show The more-than-doubling figure at Homosassa Springs comes from FOX 13 Tampa Bay. Demand there has run high enough that Daland pulled employees from other locations to keep up.
