First quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction executed, StarkWare says network still needs a fix

8/27/2026

For the first time, a Bitcoin ($BTC) transaction was processed using cryptography built to survive a quantum computer attack, a result StarkWare says it achieved.

Quantum-resistant is the technical term: math designed to hold even as quantum machines grow capable of breaking the codes most standard software uses today.

StarkWare says Bitcoin still needs a protocol-level upgrade to be fully safe from quantum threats. A quantum computer solves certain mathematical problems far faster than conventional hardware.

Most modern encryption was built on the assumption that those problems are effectively uncrackable.
