Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, reportedly contacted streamer Hasan Piker to warn that his comments were hurting the campaign's standing with voters.
According to a report by CNN published Wednesday, El-Sayed called Piker and asked him to stop making certain remarks after his statements on Israel generated significant controversy.
CNN reporter Edward-Isaac Dovere wrote that the phone conversation was described by two people who were told about it.
They said El-Sayed warned Piker that his rhetoric was costing votes and requested that he cease the behavior. Piker did not respond to requests for comment on the matter.
