A data centre supplier to both sides of the AI race slips 2% on its Hong Kong debut

A market debut is the first day a company's shares trade on a public stock exchange. Innolight's went quietly backward.

The Shandong-based equipment maker, which counts both American and Chinese technology companies among its data centre customers, dropped 2% on its first trading day in Hong Kong.

What Innolight does Data centres are the warehouse-scale facilities running the servers that power artificial intelligence.

The hardware inside them has become some of the most closely watched territory in the US-China technology competition. Innolight, based in Shandong province in eastern China, manufactures equipment for those facilities.
