Six people are dead after a shooting spread across separate locations in rural Missaukee County, Michigan. Multi-scene, in this context, means investigators traced independent crime sites before the situation was resolved. Chad Hickman, 39, suspected of carrying out the attacks, was found among the dead.
Officers were working a first scene Friday morning at a home near LaChance Road and Kelly Road in Richland Township, where three people were found dead and a fourth was wounded. Michigan State Police said the shooting had been reported just before noon.
A fourth victim was found dead at a separate home. State police posted a warning on social media earlier that day, naming Hickman and calling him "armed and dangerous."
Then his car was spotted. Officers searched a nearby wooded area and found Hickman's body alongside that of a fifth victim, bringing the total to six dead. Police said the public faces no ongoing danger.
Lt. Ashley Miller, the Michigan State Police public information officer, told local outlet UpNorthLive that the investigation has been difficult for troopers and investigators alike. She called the loss tragic for the community and said police would keep residents updated as the investigation proceeds.
Police have not released a motive. The victims have not been publicly identified while their families are being notified.
