Bucks County Detectives arrested New Jersey Deputy Attorney General Brian Richard Fitzgerald on felony charges related to AI-generated child sexual abuse material. The 51-year-old was taken into custody at his home on Thursday. According to New Jersey officials, Fitzgerald used artificial intelligence to create sexualized images from social media photos of real minors and distributed them on social media platforms. This arrest follows a broader federal effort to combat AI-generated child sexual abuse material, which the US Department of Justice has targeted since at least 2024. In a previous case, the Department of Justice charged a Wisconsin man with distributing thousands of realistic images of prepubescent minors on Telegram and Instagram. Following that charge, the Department of Justice clarified to law enforcement agencies that child sexual abuse material generated by AI remains illegal child sexual abuse material.
