Michael Douglas has described a dinner party during which a cult he says was led by Mel Lyman threatened to "eliminate" him. The 82-year-old actor recounted the encounter on the "Joe Rogan Experience," stating that he and his girlfriend were invited to eat with the group, which he characterized as a cult. During the meal, the group attempted to create an emotional moment, prompting them to tell Douglas that they had been trying to reach him. According to Douglas, they expressed frustration that he did not understand their message and declared that he would have to be eliminated. Douglas explained that the group wanted him to join them and give himself up to the collective. He noted that they intended to kill him, leading to a long silence before he asked if they had succeeded in their goal. The group confirmed their intent, and Douglas recalled his girlfriend falling apart and urinating in her pants during the pause. Despite the threat, Douglas stated he was allowed to leave. He described a moment where any sudden movement could have resulted in his death, leaving him feeling frozen and numb. Douglas said he alerted the police after the ordeal. The actor discussed these experiences in his new memoir, "One Helluva Ride," which also details his time living in a commune in Santa Barbara called Mountain Drive during his hippie days. In the book, Douglas describes his father, Kirk Douglas, as a flawed man with a ferocious temper and burning ambition. He wrote that his father's behavior left him and his brother Joel frightened, recalling a statement from Kirk that he yells and screams because he cares. Douglas also addressed the addiction struggles of his son, Cameron, who was addicted to cocaine and heroin and dealt methamphetamine. Cameron carried a Glock for protection and once flashed the weapon at a drugstore, nearly being shot by police. Douglas described arranging for two large men to help abduct Cameron and force him into rehab after deciding to kidnap him during a period of heavy drug use in New York. Cameron realized what was happening and resisted, leading Douglas to abandon the plan. Douglas wrote that Cameron later served seven years in prison following a federal drug case, with a judge adding four and a half years to his sentence after a heroin relapse behind bars. Cameron spent two years in solitary confinement.
