Massachusetts state regulators moved on October 13 to revoke all nursing home licenses held by RegalCare, a New Jersey-based company that acquired twelve facilities in the state after the pandemic. The decision follows an investigation by The Boston Globe Spotlight Team, which detailed how RegalCare chief executive Eli Mirlis cut costs and reduced the quality of care at many of the homes. According to the reporting, Mirlis slashed nursing and other services while directing funds to related businesses he owns. Although the Department of Public Health is seeking to remove the company's licenses, officials stated that RegalCare will not immediately lose control of its properties. Instead, the homes will remain under enhanced monitoring by the state department for the time being.
