The Justice Department has launched an investigation into Corey Lewandowski, a longtime adviser to President Donald Trump. A source familiar with the matter told Fox News that the probe stems from a criminal referral sent by the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general.
President Trump addressed the inquiry to reporters outside the White House, stating that he wants his staff held accountable. "All I know is I want my people to be honest," Trump said. He warned that dishonesty amounts to "stealing from me as president" and asserted that dishonest individuals "have to be prosecuted." Trump added that he would direct the Justice Department to "do whatever they have to do" if his staff were not honest.
Lewandowski worked for former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in a previous capacity. In a statement to The Wall Street Journal, a spokesperson for Lewandowski said the Justice Department has not reached out to him and rejected any allegations of misconduct. The story is developing.
