Homeland Security Investigations raided the Washington, D.C., area home of Rep. Ilhan Omar on Monday morning. The search was part of a criminal fraud investigation into immigration paperwork that Omar's father filled out, according to Fox News, which cited a person familiar with the situation.

The Department of Justice confirmed the raid in a statement to CNBC. The agency said that Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. The statement described the action as part of an ongoing federal investigation.

Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, was born in Somalia and brought to the United States as a child. She became a U.S. citizen in 2000 at the age of 17. The representative has faced criticism from President Donald Trump. She is currently 44 years old and is seeking another term as the representative for Minnesota's Fifth District. The raid occurred less than a month before the November midterm elections.

CNBC reported requesting information from Omar's office and the Department of Justice regarding the matter.
